Stacy, a lifelong area resident, completed her Physician Assistant training in 2000, joining Dr. Shafer upon graduation. She will be entering her 19th year in caring for neurological patients.
Stacy attended Southern Adventist College in Collegedale, Tennessee graduating with her Associate of Science in Biology. She then attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, earning her Bachelor of Science as a Physician Assistant. Stacy has been Board Certified since 2001 and has successfully completed renewal of her board maintenance. Additionally, she has been designated by demonstration of competency and clinical hours as a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist.
Stacy is a volunteer for the WE CARE program assisting in the neurological care that may be required for these patient’s. Additionally, she was recently asked to join as an Associate Professor for the Physician Assistant Program through Florida State University Fort Pierce, Florida campus.
Stacy has been married to her husband, Chad, for 17 years. Together they have 3 sons: Evan who is 15 years old and twins Jacob and Parker who are 13 years old. Stacy is active in her community through the Midport Seventh Day Adventist Church and assist with school programs at Glendale Christian Elementary School where Jacob and Parker attend. Her oldest son, Evan is in a boarding academy in North Carolina. She is frequently traveling to NC to spend time with Evan, attending his school events. In her free time, she is assisting her husband in their new business, a residential and commercial trash and recycle bins cleaning service. She also enjoys spending time with family, fishing, traveling, or being with her friends.
Dr. Shafer, a life-long resident of Vero Beach, has been practicing Neurology here since 1997. Stacy Smith, PA-C joined him in 2000. Together they bring nearly 50 years of caring for patients of Vero Beach and the surrounding communities.

Dr. S. James Shafer, a local resident since 1977, has practiced Adult Neurology in Vero Beach and the surrounding area since 1997.

Our Research Clinic has participated in over 40 National and International trials of which Dr. Shafer has been a Principal Investigator or Sub-Principal Investigator. We currently are enrolling patient in the following clinical trials.
